Post-Op Instructions

General Post-Procedure Care:

  • Contact Us: For any persistent pain, uneven bite, unusual bleeding, or concerns, please call us immediately at (845) 624-3188.
  • Pain Management: Mild pain relievers like Tylenol or Ibuprofen can be taken as needed for discomfort.
  • Oral Hygiene: Maintain regular brushing and flossing, but follow specific instructions for each procedure.

Specific Procedure Instructions:

After Cosmetic Dental Reconstruction:

  • Bite Adjustment: Allow time to adjust to your new bite. Contact us for adjustments if needed.
  • Sensitivity: Expect some hot and cold sensitivity. Rinse with warm salt water (1 tsp salt in 1 cup warm water) 3 times daily.
  • Speech and Saliva: Temporary speech changes and increased saliva are normal.
  • Diet: Avoid hard, sticky, and staining foods.
  • Protection: Use a custom mouthguard for sports and a night guard if provided.

After Crown and Bridge Appointments:

  • Numbness: Avoid eating or hot drinks until numbness wears off.
  • Temporary Crowns/Bridges:
    • If a temporary comes off, call us and bring it in.
    • Avoid sticky and hard foods, and chew on the opposite side.
    • Floss carefully, pulling floss out from the side.
  • Sensitivity: Expect some temperature and pressure sensitivity.

After Tooth Extraction:

  • Bleeding: Bite on gauze for 30-45 minutes. Repeat as needed.
  • Clot Preservation: Avoid rinsing, straws, smoking, alcohol, and brushing near the extraction site for 72 hours.
  • Swelling: Apply ice packs.
  • Medication: Take prescribed pain medication and antibiotics as directed.
  • Diet: Eat soft foods initially, then resume normal diet as tolerated.
  • Hygiene: Resume normal dental hygiene after 24 hours.

After Composite Fillings (White Fillings):

  • Numbness: Avoid chewing or hot beverages until numbness wears off.
  • Sensitivity: Expect some sensitivity.
  • Chewing: You can chew normally once numbness is gone.
  • Persistent Pain: Call us if sensitivity increases or persists.
